The number of SOEs steadily declines, when the companies working within the same or similar fields are merged, and when the companies, whose State ownership is deemed not important, are let by. In short-term future it is planned to merge the companies of the last two sectors, which include multiple SOEs working within the same area: road maintenance enterprises and forestry enterprises, which in total comprise almost half of the SOEs.
During the 2016 number of SOEs decreased by 10:
- AB Klaipėdos metrologijos centras – reorganized during merger into Vilniaus metrologijos centras
- AB Kauno metrologijos centras – reorganized during merger into Vilniaus metrologijos centras
- AB Panevėžio metrologijos centras – reorganized during merger into Vilniaus metrologijos centras
- AB Šiaulių metrologijos centras – reorganized during merger into Vilniaus metrologijos centras
- UAB „Senevita“ – reorganized into public agency
- UAB Sportininkų testavimo ir reabilitacijos centras – privatized
- AB „Mintis – privatized
- AB „Autoūkis – privatized
- UAB „Mokslas ir technika“ – liquidated
- VĮ Seimo leidykla „Valstybės žinios“ – liquidation in progress
