This Saturday (April 20th), throughout Lithuania, there will be a forest planting celebration – the national afforestation event called “Let the Forests Grow Green.” At the invitation of the Management Coordination Center (VKC) and the State Forest Enterprise (VĮ Valstybinių miškų urėdijos), the community of state-owned enterprises (VVĮ) joined this initiative in advance. Representatives of the enterprises helped plant forests for Trakai district foresters last Friday, April 19th.
As noted by GCC Director Vidas Danielius, with global pollution increasing and greater attention being paid to environmental issues worldwide, it is very important for each of us to turn to nature and nurture sustainability ideas.
“The forest planting initiative has already become an annual tradition for the SOEs community. It is extremely gratifying that the priorities of sustainable activities for the SOEs community are not limited to just the specific company where one works. The management of SOEs not only declares support for sustainability ideas but also practically sets a commendable example, demonstrating that with the right priorities, it is always possible to find opportunities and focus on good deeds,” notes GCC Director Vidas Danielius.
At the invitation of GCC and the State Forest Enterprise, more than half of the top-level managers and board members from 34 currently operating SOEs arrived to plant specially designated spruce, pine, and birch seedlings for the afforestation on Friday.
The national afforestation event “Let the Forests Grow Green” will take place throughout Lithuania on April 20th, starting at 10 a.m. Those who wish to participate in the celebration and contribute to increasing Lithuania’s forest cover are invited to register on the State Forest Enterprise’s website: https://registracija.vmu.lt/
