GCC shared best practices during a World Bank support mission in Rwanda.
Earlier this year, during a World Bank support mission in Rwanda, the Governance Coordination Centre (GCC) was invited to share Lithuania’s best practices in developing and strengthening professional governance of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
During remote meetings, Lithuania’s SOE governance model was presented to the leadership of Rwanda’s Ministry of Finance. Particular attention was given to the system of performance measurement indicators, including the concept of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), as well as the principles for setting, aligning, and approving these indicators. Other SOE governance practices contributing to a transparent and efficiently operating SOE sector were also reviewed.
“Our experience in SOE governance is receiving international attention and recognition. This demonstrates that Lithuania’s consistent SOE reform and clearly defined governance principles can serve as a practical example for other countries seeking solutions to strengthen the efficiency and accountability of their SOEs,” says Jurgita Bagdonienė, Acting Head of GCC.
The World Bank implements development cooperation programs in many African countries, including Rwanda, where it is one of the country’s key development partners. In Rwanda, the World Bank provides financial, analytical, and technical assistance in the areas of economic growth and public sector strengthening. In cooperation with Rwandan institutions, efforts are aimed at introducing international best practices and developing sustainable solutions for the country’s long-term development.
