At the World Bank event – experiences from the ongoing SOE reform in Lithuania
On March 17, the Director of the Governance Coordination Center (VKC), Vidas Danielius, participated in an event organized by the World Bank in Vienna, Austria. During the event, he had the opportunity to share Lithuania’s experience and review the progress of the state-owned enterprise (SOE) reform in recent years.
During a panel discussion, V. Danielius introduced the VKC, explaining its role in selecting and appointing SOE board members as well as evaluating SOEs. He familiarized participants with key legal requirements and the most effective tools that have significantly contributed to professional SOE governance in Lithuania. Additionally, he highlighted the benefits of SOE centralization.
“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to share best practices with foreign countries in discussions on improving SOE governance. The event brought together colleagues from the Balkan countries, as well as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. It became evident that these countries have a strong desire to enhance the efficiency of their SOEs. It is very gratifying that Lithuania is seen as a positive example in this field, and we hope that the insights we shared will help inspire SOEs in these countries to achieve higher standards of good governance,” said V. Danielius.
