In Uzbekistan, GCC shared experience with colleagues
On June 5th, the Director of the Governance Coordination Center (GCC), Vidas Danielius, participated in an event organized by the Economic Cooperation and Development Organization (ECDO) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, aimed at strengthening the reform of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in Uzbekistan.
For some time now, Uzbekistan has been actively seeking better results in the good governance of SOEs, but has encountered difficulties in selecting independent board members. Therefore, GCC Director V. Danielius shared experience with colleagues from Uzbekistan regarding the selection and appointment of SOE board members in Lithuania.
Director Danielius introduced what GCC is and its role in selecting and appointing SOE board members, providing information about the stages of board member selection and specific actions taken in each of them.
“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to share our positive experience with colleagues from Uzbekistan discussing the improvement of SOE governance. SOEs dominate in key sectors of the Uzbek economy, such as mining, energy, manufacturing, telecommunications, transportation, and agriculture. Therefore, increased efficiency of SOE operations is important for them not only domestically but also to enhance international competitiveness. We hope that the knowledge we shared will help motivate SOEs in Uzbekistan to achieve better results in good governance,” shared V. Danielius, sharing his experience from Tashkent.
